A little Echidna

“I received a call today for Warriors4wildlife about this little Echidna”.

The Member of public asked me about relocating the Echidna or what to do and this is what I explained to the and i thought i would share it with you as well just in case you come across one

Did you know?

The Australian echidnas travel great distances every day.

During spring and this time of year,
echidnas appear more frequently than usual and often appear in unusual places.

Echidnas travel long distances in search of food and may cross your house or yard.
(Some have been known to travel long distances for several days before returning)

The Australian echidna’s leaves a scent trail that can help it find its way back to the burrow.
If you try to relocate them and they have young in the burrow
they may not be able to find their way back.

What to do

DO NOT MOVE THEM

Remove all hazards from the area, such as dogs
Keep everyone away
and within a few hours to a few days,
the Australian echidna will be gone
. By eliminating the dangers, they can do what they need to do.
