Powerful Owl

Last week we received a call just after midnight for this beautiful Powerful Owl found on the ground. We quickly organised for a wildlife shelter to take it as the member of the public was able to collect the bird and transport it to them. The Owl was then taken to Healesville Sanctuary early the next morning for an assessment.

This particular Owl is one of a known breeding pair in the area, Healesville said there was a couple of things that needed monitoring with the Owl but it had no broken bones which was good news. We really hope that this Owl will be well enough to be released back to its family

The Powerful Owl is the largest Owl in Australia and is considered a threatened species in Victoria. It has an impressive wingspan of up to 140cm! Their food sources include Possums, birds, Flying Foxes and even Christmas beetles so it is very important that we also protect these species too
